TS Galaxy mentor Dan ‘Dance’ Malesela says he’s ready for the 2020/21 DStv Premiership campaign.
Malesela was speaking to the club website ahead of their first Premier Soccer League (PSL) encounter against Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) on Sunday afternoon.
“We are sort of ready to take on the first game. Otherwise, we wouldn’t go to Venda. It is just for us to get the right people to the right places… it is very promising. The good thing is that we’ve played a quite number of (friendly) games and we’ve scored goals in all those games. What is not pleasing is that we conceded as a well. We need to fix the defending,” said the 54-year-old.
“It is always nice to start well. It is a moral booster. It is a confidence booster. You win the first game and everybody get hyped up.”
The coach also put on record that the competition in the club is very high and everybody must compete to earn their place in the starting 11.
“We need to compete. Every position must have competition. If people are going to relax and know that certain people own certain positions, we won’t have competition. We won’t have competition even if we play other teams. We need competition within and competition outside. People who perform must know that ‘if I don’t stay consistent, I may be sitting on the bench in the next game’,” Malesela added.
The former Orlando Pirates skipper went on to say that players who were at Highlands Park and the new recruits are coming well together, but some players are still trying to adjust to the conditions.
Malesela believes that he has a good squad that can compete with the best in the PSL, but highlighted the fact that he would like to reinforce his central defence.
“Our most critical position is the addition of a centre back. If we can get one centre back and then we will be fine,” he said.
