There is a possibility that Xola Mlambo could dance with coach Dan Malesela once again, this time around at TS Galaxy, the DStv Premiership newcomers.
Malesela firmly believes he can get the best out of Mlambo if granted the opportunity to work with the midfielder again as he ‘understands how to play him better than any coach’.
The healthy player-coach relationship between Malesela and Mlambo started back in 2015 at Mamelodi Sundowns’ development side M-Tigers in the SAB League (third tier).
Mlambo, who was recently offloaded by Orlando Pirates, played under the watchful eye of Malesela during two stints in his professional career, first at National First Division (GladAfrica Championship) side Cape Town All Stars and later Chippa United before he went on to join the now-defunct Bidvest Wits.
The Galaxy coach is of the opinion that Wits and Pirates failed to use Mlambo, affectionately known as ‘Ten Ten’, effectively and to his strengthens.
“The fact that he moved to two different clubs and he did not become a regular tells me that people don’t understand him,” Malesela told the SA Football Journalists’ Association (Safja) in an online virtual press conference on Tuesday.
“I think I understand him better and I think I understand how he should be played. I’m not going to tell anybody how they must play him because I will be arming them with something in case he doesn’t come [join TS Galaxy],” added Malesela.
The Soweto-born star, Mlambo played his best football under Malesela at Chippa and CT All Stars and the two could re-unite at Galaxy as club owner Tim Sukazi confirmed interest in the former Pirates midfielder.
“We are very much [interested in the player]. Xola, with the way he plays, he can fit well at our team. The coach [Malesela] comes from far with him,” said Sukazi.
Galaxy will be taking part in South Africa’s top-flight for the first time in the upcoming season after they purchased the status of Highlands Park.
