Mali and Morocco cruised their way into the 2020 Total African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals following their impressive display in the semi-finals of the tournament on Wednesday.

The Eagles defeated Guinea 5-4 on penalties after 120 tiresome and goalless minutes.

Mali were delighted to reach the final as there were a few opportunities in an encounter that produced all sort of drama.

“It was not easy. Guinea had a lot of chances. We did everything to win. The medical staff will do everything possible to regain freshness. We will now prepare hard for the final,” said Mali head coach Nouhoum Diane in a post-match interview.

Meanwhile, two-goal hero Soufiane Rahimi secured Morocco the CHAN final spot after thrashing out the hosts Cameroon 4-0 at the Limbe Stadium.

Mali dominated the first 20 minutes of the game with their pace that troubled the Indomitable Lions who were left with the only option of defending their goal area in numbers.

After the game, the Atlas Lions mentor Houcine Ammouta added that: “It was a little difficult for us from the start, but things got better when we scored the first goal. It was a collective effort by the whole team to get this result. I congratulate the Cameroon team for coming this far in the tournament.”

Mali and Morocco will play in Sunday’s final of the CHAN tournament at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde.
