SA Member of Parliament Boy Mamabolo has vowed to revive the once famous Seshego Football League and help stabilize developmental football in the area.

This comes as the Politician has roped in the SAFA national office to be part of a big launch of the revamped football games, taking place on Friday.

The football extravaganza last took place in the area, 8 years ago.

SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan and acting SAFA CEO Tebogo Motlanthe are amongst the dignitaries expected to grace the event.

“We felt that it is important to revive the Seshego Football League because there is too much crime in the township and these crimes are committed mostly by young boys,” Mamabolo told FARPost.

“Remember we are also having a high school challenge which involves school kids but when they get home they don’t have teams that they are playing for, hence we decided that we should escalate that programme to the local teams.

“I do not only love football, but I grew up playing football hence I am where I am because I played soccer until I was 17 and then focused on Politics. So, soccer took me out of the streets, but we also want to start sponsoring netball, cricket and softball later in the year,”

The soccer Tournament which will now be called the Boy Mamabolo League, will feature the Under 10, 13, 15 and 17 divisions.

The launch will officially take place at the Honeymoon Lodge in Seshego on Friday at 17:00.
