Sadio Mane found the back of the net as Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United.
The Reds continue to fight for a spot in the top four of the English Premier League and the Peacocks did not make life any easier for their visitors at the iconic Elland Road Stadium on a beamy Monday night.
Liverpool started the game with a high tempo and missed a number of opportunities before Trent Alexander-Arnold found the Senegalese winger unmarked for a simple tap in with 31 minutes played, 1-0.
Jurgen Klopp’s side could have gone ahead on a number of occasions, but they failed to put the game to bed before Diego Llorente equalised for the hosts in the 87th minute, 1-1.
Mane lasted 71 minutes before being substituted for his African compatriot Mohamed Salah who came in, but failed to make the required impact for the defending champions.
The winger has now netted eight goals and assisted another six strikes in 29 league games for Liverpool.
Liverpool remain sixth on the Premier League table with 53 points from 32 games so far. It’s not been a good couple of days for the English side after being recently knocked out of the Uefa Champions League by Real Madrid.
Their next game is on Saturday against Newcastle United who are full of confidence after defeating high flying West Ham United 3-2 last weekend in the league.
