Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler says his men are full of vim and vigour for the restart of the Absa Premiership and he is viewing the busy schedule with the inevitable fixture congestion as a positive.
After a three-month break owing to the coronavirus, the season resumes on 08 August with the Nedbank Cup semifinal clashes with teams set to go into the Gauteng Bio-Bubble on 07 August.
With six games remaining, ‘The Team of Choice’ are in fifth position on the log standings, having won 10 matches and will tackle Black Leopards on Sunday, 16 August in their first game of the restart at FNB Stadium.
“I think the squad so far is all good, we do not have any injuries. Everyone is fit and available so that is a positive leading up to the final six games,” said Tinkler.
“We only have one real back-to-back games that is a bit of a concern which is when we play [Mamelodi] Sundowns and then [Bidvest] Wits two days later. But that’s a problem for all the teams, they all have to face something similar,” noted Tinkler.
“I think the players are the ones who have obviously missed football the most. It’s their profession, something they enjoy. Being away from the game for as long as they have been, nearly three months, it is a long time, so everyone is happy to be back and ready to go.”
“Obviously, these games will be played behind closed doors so we hope the Maritzburg United fans will support us from home and stay safe. Five of our last six games are televised so they will get an opportunity to see us on TV and obviously we will feel that support in the stadium,” concluded the Maritzburg mentor.
