There were no goals in the KZN Derby between Maritzburg United and AmaZulu FC.
A second string Usuthu side managed to tame the quick attacks of the home side.
Both sides were threatening and throwing everything at each other.
Lehlohonolo Majoro and Siphiwe Tshabalala both missed glorious chances to put AmaZulu ahead, in the first half.
The home side tried to use set pieces to attack but they could not profit from them, with Thabiso Kutumela sending in dangerous balls in the box.
It was an entertaining first half with the match played at high intensity but the finishing was not good.
In the 68th minute AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy made three substitutions bringing on regular players like Bongi Ntuli, Siyethemba Sithebe and Tapelo Xoki for Andre De Jong, Thembela Sikhakhane and Xola Mlambo.
Meanwhile, Maritzburg coach Ernst Middendorp brought on Dusan Stevic and Dan Morgan for Teboho Tlolane and Daylon Claasen.
The intention was clear from the Maritzburg bench to close the shop and catch them on a counter. It worked for them as they managed to keep a clean sheet and consolidate a point.
Both teams missed opportunities to score, with AmaZulu taking control of the match with superior ball possession, while Maritzburg tried to absorb the pressure.
