In what was a tightly contested match between Maritzburg United and AmaZulu, only penalties could separate the two sides on Sunday.
The match got off to a scintillating start with the Team of Choice threatening to cause problems for Usuthu.
The pressure finally paid off, when Rowen Human fleaked the ball on Richard Zumah’s way for the Ghanaian to slot on the bottom left corner.
Suddenly the match came to life with AmaZulu looking to equalize, throwing everything at the Maritzburg defence.
The Team of Choice defence subsequently cracked and they handled the ball inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot.
Usuthu captain Tapelo Xoki took the responsibility and slotted home from 12 yards to level the score.
Maritzburg United continued their good run and great passing game, with Brandon Theron finding Zukile Kewuti on the far post to score the second.
AmaZulu came back in the second half the most hungry and they were quick in transition, with Siphelele Mthembu beating an off-side trap and rounded the keeper to put the score level at 2-2.
The game became an end-to-end affair with both sides looking for the winner, but it was not to be as both defences stayed intact.
It was in the penalties where Marcel Engelhardt proved to be key for Maritzburg, saving Xoki’s spot kick and the Team Choice won 5-3.
