Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler has confirmed his players are set for a big pay day should The Team Of Choice clinch the Telkom Knockout when they clash against Mamelodi Sundowns at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
This will be the KwaZulu Natal club’s first ever appearance in a Telkom Knockout Final.
“Bonuses exists in Finals, there’s always been of course,” Tinkler says.
“It happens all around the world, be it in the Champions League, be it Nedbank Cup, be it Telkom Cup, be it a World Cup – players get bonuses for winning titles because that’s what we are aiming to try and achieve.
“You can try and achieve to win a cup because there’s where the money is, trying to win the league because that’s where the money is,” says the former Bafana Bafana midfielder.”
Usually, players share half the prize money and with the Telkom Knockout first prize at R4-million, it means they would share R2-million.
The determination as to who receives how much is on the basis of how many games a certain player featured in the tournament.
