Maritzburg release Sangweni

#FARPost has it on good authority that Telkom Knockout Finalists Maritzburg United have terminated the contract of midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni.

Sangweni was signed by the team of choice in July this year after spending time at GladAfrica Championship side Richards Bay.

A source confirmed to #FARPost that the 30-year-old was informed of the decision on Thursday, 2 days before the all-important Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.

“Things were not working out for him and it’s true he was released yesterday”

When called for confirmation, United Football Manager Quinton Jetto denied the reports.

“I don’t know where you get that in formation from really a day before the Cup final you call me about this? I have no idea where you get this from. You want to put this story a day before the Cup final? Why would you even do it and why would you even ask about it?”

“I don’t understand if your intention is to destabilise this team before the Cup final. It is not correct I know nothing about that”

Efforts to reach the player were unsuccessful.

Sangweni has only made 2 appearances for the Team of Choice coming in as a substitute against Baroka and Chippa united. His last appearance was in the beginning of October.

Since making his professional debut in 2009, Sangweni has played for the likes of AmaZulu, Mamelodi Sundowns, Ajax Cape Town, Chippa United, Orlando Pirates and Richards Bay.
