Maritzburg United expecting more signings

After unveiling four new players on Tuesday, Maritzburg United are expected to add more players to their arsenal in preparation for the new season.

The KZN side have beefed up their midfield with the likes of Zukile Kewuti, Lefa Hlongwane and Rowan Human while Alfred Ndengane brings more experience at the back.

The club’s assistant coach Maahier Davids, who is returning after stints at Cape Umoya United and Ethiopia’s Saint George has indicated that they are not done in the market, with more players expected to arrive at Maritzburg.

“We’ve had some two weeks now, good first steps in terms of getting the guys together after the off-season,” he said.

“It’s a gradual process, gradual integration with the team, with football fitness that we are looking for.

“Some other guys we are hoping they will come in the next weeks, which will also give us a good step in confidence, fresh energy into the new season.

“Last season was very unpredictable, coming out of the bubble there were a lot of changes and it was a very short break,” continued Davids.

“A full pre-season will only benefit us going forward. We’ve started well from the beginning with the group that we have.

“The objective is to do better than what the club did last season, we definitely have the ambition to go far in the league and in the cups, as much as we can.”

The Team of Choice is expected to bring in at least two goalkeepers, after the departure of Bongani Mpandle and Jethren Barr.

They are currently left with only one goalminder in Marcel Engelhardt from Germany.
