FARPost can confirm that Marumo Gallants’s opponents for the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round, Futuro Kings face a danger of not making it on time for the match, as they are still stuck in Cameroon, less than 20 hours before kick-off.
The club was still in Yaounde as at 19:30 on Thursday, 16 September. The match is set to take place on Friday, 17 September at Peter Mokaba Stadium at 15:00.
They were scheduled to train at the match venue on Thursday afternoon but didn’t pitch.
This publication got in touch with the club official who confirmed that they are still in Yaounde and will board a flight on Thursday night.
“We are in Cameroon now, we have to leave this night,” said our contact travelling with the team.
Since there is no direct flight from Yaounde to OR Tambo International Airport, the Equatorial Guinea side will have to connect via Kenya which will take them six hours.
It will also take them another five hours from Nairobi to Johannesburg. After landing, the club still needs to travel by bus from Johannesburg to Polokwane which will take them roughly four hours.
All these will take more than 16 hours (without counting the checking-in process) and with only 20 hours left before the 15:00 kick-off, it looked impossible that they would make it for the match on time.
Gallants are trailing the two-legged match 2-1 following the first leg clash in Mongomo on Saturday last week.
