The GladAfrica Championship is reaching its halfway stage as teams in the division are fighting for points. With the bottom teams recently sneaking crucial wins against their illustrious opposition, the points pendulum is in full throttle.
FARPost takes a momentous look at an intriguing match between title-chasing teams, JDR Stars against Jomo Cosmos this afternoon.
1. JDR Stars
Stars have been pretty stable this season and have accumulated 22 points after 13 matches. With a rather commendable scoring record of 19 goals and conceding 14, they have a goal difference of 5.
Their form guide in the last 5 games reads (WWLDL), showing 2 wins in the last 5. A major concern is their ability to regroup when playing a lower positioned team (e.g home loss against Cape Town Spurs).
2. Jomo Cosmos
‘Ezenkosi’ are perched strategically at position number 5, and are 3 points behind Stars and 4 points behind new leaders Richards Bay United. With 15 goals scored and 13 goals conceded, Cosmos’ goal difference of 2, suggests a team incapable of shutting the backdoor.
Cosmos last 5 games scenario of (LLWDL) doesn’t strengthen the promotion ambitions. With 1 win in 5 matches and 3 losses in that block of fixtures, indicates a team in need of fresh impetus.
3. Players to watch
In Vusimuzi Mncube, Stars have a nippy and multifunctional striker who can deliver goals at any moment. The 27-year-old is a class act and should be spurred by a possibility of Stars going top if they beat Cosmos. Stars will rely on him to supply their current leading scorer, Temptation Chiwunga (6 goals)
As for the Jomo Sono led Cosmos, talisman Moeketsi Sekola will carry the hopes of the team. The 32-year-old Sekola is a proven goalscorer having netted 8 goals this season and used as a tactical fulcrum by Cosmos to their advantage.
Jomo Cosmos will welcome JDR Stars at the Tsakane Stadium (Kickoff 15:30).
