ABC Motsepe League side Mathaithai FC from Free State wrote a lengthy letter to the South African Football Association (Safa) requesting answers on why SAB or ABC Motsepe teams were disqualified from the 2020/21 Nedbank Cup edition.
This comes after Safa suspended all amateur football activities due to Covid-19 cases surge in the country.
However, the decision taken by the local football governing body doesn’t seem to sit well with the team’s management, citing that the Government Gazzette of South Africa stipulates that amateur football can play under strict Covid-19 measures.
“After being surprisingly withdrawn from Nedbank Cup we notified Safa about our dissatisfaction in writing and no response was given. We have therefore instructed our Attorneys to further engage with Safa. Our players’ focus is now on the league and our legal counsel will do what they have to,” said Mathaithai in a statement.
Safa is expected to review its decision by the 31st of January 2021 and give a way forward on how things will pan out.
The Botshabelo-based outfit was set to battle it out with SAB League side Excelsior United on the 9th of January 2021 in order to qualify for the Nedbank Cup last 32.
