Mbabane Swallows have been found guilty of causing the abandonment of their game against Royal Leopard earlier this month and were fined E50 000 by the Eswatini League Disciplinary Committee (DC).
The red and white giants further forfeited the match with three goals and three points awarded to Leopard.
However, Swallows will pay E25 000 of the fine with the rest suspended for the rest of the season on condition they are not found to have committed a similar offence.
The seven time league champions were charged by the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) for contravening Article 4 (16) of the MTN Premier League rules and regulations which states that, ‘Any club reporting for card checking after 15 minutes of the scheduled start of the match will result in the match being called off. The offending club shall be liable to a disciplinary hearing and if found guilty shall be fined an amount not less than E50 000 and shall further be deemed to have caused the abandonment of the match and shall further lose the match, with three points and three goals awarded to their opponents’.
Effectively, the ruling of the Thulani Sibandze-led DC means Leopard leap frog Swallows to third spot on the log with a better goal difference.
Both sides are now tied at 14 points apiece.
