SuperSport United head coach Kaitano Tembo has told in-demand midfielder duo of Sipho Mbule and Teboho Mokoena to ignore the continued speculation over their future and remain focused on the club.
Mbule and Mokoena have been linked with moves away from ‘Matsatsantsa’ following their stunning display last campaign with Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Orlando Pirates all reportedly keen to acquire the services of the SA Under-23 international stars.
Tembo said the club’s CEO Stan Matthews has had a chat with the highly-rated and talented pair, highlighting the importance of paying no attention to the ‘rumours’ until any club makes an official offer for them.
“That has been a very worrying issue regarding those two players‚” said Tembo on Tuesday at a press conference ahead of SuperSport’s MTN8 quarterfinal clash against Golden Arrows at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday evening.
“The talk of them going to other clubs started last season. When it started, we were doing very well. I think it started around January and destabilised us.
“Players are human beings. When people are talking about them, they are bound to lose focus and concentration and their game sometimes suffers.
“At the moment I think we’ve had enough time to prepare them and speak to them because nothing was on the table.
“The CEO spoke to them. Nothing was on the table. Until something happens‚ they will be the first to know.”
Mbule scored four goals and provided six assists last season in 25 league appearances helping SuperSport finish in fifth place, while Mokoena also netted four times and turned provider on three occasions.
“They are really focused for the team‚ they want to do well. They have ambitions that you are as good as your last game,” concluded Tembo.
