AmaZulu head coach Benni McCarthy has applauded his players for their commitment following a 2-0 win against Baroka on Saturday.
A goal in each half by Bonginkosi Ntuli and Siphelele Magubane gave McCarthy his second win in the six games since taking charge from Ayanda Dlamini in December 2020.
Usuthu have also jumped to eighth on the DStv Premiership with 15 points, 12 behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and six above bottom placed, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.
“Well deserved three points. I was a bit concerned coming here after playing such a difficult game against SuperSport where we should have taken all three points, but we didn’t,” said McCarthy after the match.
“The bus trip to here, the heat. But you now what? These players are just a bunch of winners. It’s very difficult for a coach not to succeed when you have got players like these who are willing to work hard. Willing to put in the effort and willing to learn and get better.
“We started the game like we finished the SuperSport game. High spirited, but you know what? We have been playing fantastic football and it was just a matter of time to start finding our feet and become a little bit more clinical in front of goal,” he said.
AmaZulu will face Stellenbosch in their next game on Friday, 29 January at Kings Park Stadium.
