AmaZulu’s DStv Premiership coach of the season Benni McCarthy is hoping to see more KZN teams in the Premier Soccer League next season.
The former UEFA Champions League winner with FC Porto applauded Maritzburg United for staying in the DStv Premiership, as they sneaked a 0-0 draw against his side, AmaZulu on the last day of the league.
McCarthy is hopeful that Royal AM will be promoted to the big league after the whole court process has been completed, so that his side can have much competition in the province.
“Hopefully when the GladAfrica Championship mess is sorted out and then we’ll be able to have three KZN derbies,” said McCarthy.
“You know Royal AM, Maritzburg United and Golden Arrows, so yeah a lot of KZN teams to look forward to playing next season.
“So congratulations to Maritzburg for making the cut and well done to us AmaZulu and now we can go and enjoy our break, have a nice holiday and come back refreshed and ready to work.”
The 43-year-old coach was very impressed with his fringe players, who he believes made a good account of themselves in their last encounter of the season.
“It was nice to see players who have not played many minutes as they’d have liked and I was very proud of every single one of them. They brought a lot of fight and good spirit, they played some fantastic football.
“A lot of players made bold statements, that they are good enough and they got quality you know, to be part of the squad next season,” concluded McCarthy.
