Limpopo professional football clubs, except for Polokwane City, have received their vaccination jab ahead of the 2021/22 season.
DStv Premiership clubs Marumo Gallants and Baroka technical staff members all took the jab at Petersburg provincial hospital in Polokwane, Limpopo on Friday.
The clubs received their Johnson and Johnson single dose from MEC for health in the province Dr Phophi Ramathuba.
GladAfrica Championship clubs Black Leopards and Venda Football Academy were also vaccinated.
“We firstly must appreciate the positive response from the clubs. You can see for yourselves overwhelming response from our PSL teams,” Ramathuba told FARPost.
“There is no better way than getting soccer players and their coaches to be vaccinated. But also because most players are below the age of 35, we felt its important now to start with the coaches, technical teams and their management.
“So we are really humbled and impressed that we have vaccinated them. For us it’s a step in the right direction because what pains us is that they are one of the sectors which is hard hit by Covid-19 and also regulations of hard lockdown. I never thought anyone can play soccer in an empty stadium,” she said.
All the players from the provincial clubs will be vaccinated on the 1st of September 2021.
The Premiership season will kickstart on 14 August with the MTN 8 fixtures while the first division will start on Saturday, 21 August.
