Mekoa joins Ajax Cape Town

GladAfrica Championship side Ajax Cape Town have announced the signing of Deolin Mekoa from Maritzburg United on loan with an option to buy.

The club confirmed the signing on Wednesday as they seek to strengthen their attacking force and continue their fight for promotion to the Absa Premiership.

Ajax are right on track as they occupy position 1 in the GladAfrica Championship with 38 points after 19 games, 3 points clear of second-placed Uthongathi.

At some stage in his career the 26-year-old was hot property in the Absa Premiership in the colours of “The Team of Choice”.

The former Under 23 and Bafana Bafana player had been previously linked with a move to Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs but those did not come about and he will instead play for the ‘Urban Warriors’ in the second-tier league.

Mekoa had fallen out of favour at Maritzburg, making only 6 appearances in all competitions this season.

‘The Urban Warriors’ are next in action on Sunday away at Goble Park against Free State Stars, kickoff at 15:00.
