Barcelona captain Lionel Messi says he wants to move on and forget about his recent attempt to leave the club also while attacking the board of directors.
Messi is now calling for everyone to pull together to help the Spanish giants have a successful 2020/21 season.
The Argentine international handed Barca a notice in August, stating that he wished to terminate his contract before eventually deciding to stay for the 2020/21 campaign, which happens to be the last year on his current deal as he was avoiding to face a legal battle with the club.
But, Messi continued to throw jabs at Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu and criticised the club for the manner in which they treated Luis Suarez, who left Barca for Atletico Madrid.
In an interview with Barcelona-based newspaper Sport published on Tuesday, Messi stated that he is tired of fighting with the club.
“After so many arguments, I would like to bring an end to everything. We all have to be united and assume that the best is yet to come. We must always be united and pull in the same direction,” said Messi.
“I take responsibility for my errors and if they existed, it was only to make Barcelona better and stronger.”
Barca’s all-time top scorer also added that it was not his intention to hurt the club’s supporters but says he believed at the time that leaving would have been good for the club.
“If at any moment, any of them were annoyed by something that I said or did, let there be no doubts that anything I did was always with the club’s best interests in mind,” concluded Messi
