Messi cements GOAT status

Never before has the career of one footballer engulfed the imagination of the world and its football population (supporters and fans) like the one of Lionel Messi.

Born in Rosario, Argentina, the diminutive star player had to overcome his physical demeanor and physiological circumstances to reach his sport goals.

The plethora of success accomplished by Messi is impeccable: La Liga titles, UEFA Champions Leagues, Under-20 World Cup, FIFA World Club Championships and an Olympic Gold medal, to name but a few.

Still, the World Cup Dream eluded him at the Maracana, Brazil, when his Argentinian team team lost to a very talented and organized German machine. The win by the Germany was no fluke as they embarrassed the “Selecao” in knockout stage of the tournament.

But, perhaps the most important history was Leo’s inability to win the South American Nations Cup (Copa America) for his country and of course, himself. The pain and status made worse by his technical foe, Ronaldo winning the European Nations Cup four years ago.

So this morning at the Maracana, Messi ultimately banished the memories of Ronaldo, Germany and talk of not winning a major trophy for Argentina.

Supported by Angel di Maria, Lautaro Martinez and Rodrigo de Paul, the phenomenon led Argentina to 1-0 victory over their arch-rivals Brazil.

The win by Argentina end their 28-year wait since they last won the Copa America, Messi was named player of the tournament after his four goals and five assists in the competition.

The GOAT status is firmly entrenched on Messi as he prepares to lead the “Albacete” at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
