Barcelona star Lionel Messi has matched Javier Mascherano’s record for the most appearances made by a player in Argentina history.
The 33-year-old winger was in the starting eleven for Argentina when they faced Paraguay in the Copa America Cup, Messi has 147 appearances for the Albiceleste and equals Javier Mascherano’s record of appearances.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner made his debut for his country back in 2005, in an international friendly match against Hungary.
Mascherano, who was also his teammate at Barcelona, reached 147 caps between 2003 and 2018, and retired after participating in the World Cup in Russia.
In third place comes in Javier Zanetti, who has 142 appearances under his belt between 1994 and 2011.
