Life’s a beach for South African duo Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Zanale Nhlapo at the moment.
The former Banyana Banyana striker Mgcoyi and defender Nhlapo helped KFF Mitrovica inflict a heavy 10-0 defeat on Llap in the Kosovo Cup final at the Zahir Pajaziti Stadium in Podujeva on Monday.
This match was scheduled to be played at the end of last season but due to the Covid-19 pandemic and then the busy schedule, it was postponed and took place on 23 November 2020.
Mgcoyi, who represented Banyana at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2014 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) used her many years of European club football experience as she scored a brace in the final.
Meanwhile, Kaltrina Biqkaj was the hat-trick hero in the match with Edona Kryeziu and Suada Jashari netting two goals each and Blerta Shala closing the series of goals from the penalty spot in the last minute.
Kosovo Women’s Football League champions Mitrivica signed the SA pair of Mgcoyi and Nhlapo on a one-year contract back in August 2019.
The duo previously played for KF Apolonia Fier in Albania where Nhlapo captained the side while Mgcoyi scored 23 goals.
Mitrovica head coach Veton Çitaku expressed joy after clinching his first trophy at the club. “It is a special feeling to win trophies,” he said.
“But I think this was an unequal match in terms of quality, as Llapi have new players. However, these successes of Mitrovica come after a very good organization and continuous work done in the club in the last three years”, added Çitaku.
