The Malawian hitman made it clear at the beginning of the season that he wants to make a name for himself at Orlando Pirates.
As they say, first impressions are the most lasting, Gabadinho Mhango made an instant impact in the colours of Pirates following his arrival at the club from Bidvest Wits in 2019 and has quickly become a fan favourite.
“When you get the opportunity to play for Orlando Pirates, the biggest team in the country, you know there are so many players out there also looking for that same opportunity. So, when the opportunity came my way, I was so excited,” said Mhango.
“It is a challenge to maintain that distance from defenders, but the first thing that goes through my mind when I get the ball is to look forward and then always look for the open space. My goal is always to move forward into open space. I’m always looking at creating space,” he said.
While the Premier Soccer League (PSL) season has been suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic, Mhlango is having no issues maintaining and keeping a healthy distance of at least one metre from other people which has shown to be a highly effective means of helping to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
“I’m currently in lockdown with my two brothers and we’re doing our part to Stay Safe. We’re washing our hands regularly, and we realise we need to avoid being around other people right now,” said the 27-year-old.
“People need to find a way to create space for themselves and try and stay away from big groups,” concluded the ‘Buccaneers’ striker.
