Orlando Pirates in-from striker Gabadinho Mhango has scored 6 goals in his last 3 Absa Premiership games and has revealed that his main target is to score 15 goals this season.
The Malawian also added that he thinks it is also possible to break Collins Mbesuma’s all-time record of 25 League goals in one season.
“My target was 15 goals or above at the beginning of the season and I hope I achieve that. I heard that someone has set a record of 25 goals. I think it was Mbesuma. No one has touched that record and I believe I can do it. It is possible but it won’t be easy because the league is tough, it is strong so the defenders are aware of the strikers and the strikers are aware of the defenders, ” said Mhango, ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Mamelodi Sundowns at Orlando Stadium.
The Pirates forward is just 5 goals shy of his personal target with 10 goals in 14 league appearances so far. “There is a lot of supply there at Pirates. It is possible to do that (break the Mbesuma record).
“I need extra training for myself. When I am at home I do practice finishing with my younger brother so I think that’s something that can maybe help me achieve that record, “said the Malawian international.
Mbesuma scored 25 goals back in the 2004/05 season in Kaizer Chiefs colours and still remains the only player to achieve that feat in a single season.
The 27-year-old Mhango went on to say scoring against Sundowns will not mean anything.
“The best thing I know is to put the ball in the net and I am just consistent in doing that. For me scoring against Sundowns will not mean anything as long as I am scoring every game, that’s what matters to me and as long as the opportunities come again I will take them and keep moving, “concluded Mhango
Pirates will host Sundowns in an Absa Premiership clash at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening.
