Kaizer Chiefs head coach Ernst Middendorp has backed his two main strikers to push each other and go all the way and claim the Golden Boot award come end of the season.
Chiefs strikers Samir Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro have been in red hot form this season which has seen them netting 12 goals between them in the Absa Premiership to propel the team to the summit of the log table.
Nurkovic scored a hat trick in their 5-3 victory against Bloemfontein Celtic over the weekend, while Castro grabbed a brace at Moses Mabhida Stadium and the German coach Middendorp believes his two main strikers have a great combination which allows them to help each other which could se both players vying for the Golden boot award.
“Samir Nurkovic has a great chance of winning the Golden Boot as well as Leanardo Castro, both have a good chance, they have good numbers so far this season,” said Middendorp, who was previously at Celtic
“It’s still early days but the good thing is that both players are prepared to help each other out, it’s always good when you have two strikers with the same amount of power supporting and assisting each other which is good.
“We will definitely see both of them finishing with good numbers,” added the Chiefs coach
The Serbian striker Nurkovic is currently the joint top goal scorer alongside Knox Mutizwa of Golden Arrows and Peter Shalulile from Highlands Park who are all tied on 8 goals each almost midway through the season while the Colombian hit man Castro is currently on 4 goals.
