Middendorp explains Khune’s absence

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has explained why experienced goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune was not part of the squad for Wednesday night’s Absa Premiership clash against Bidvest Wits.

Khune was a notable absentee during their 1-1 draw against the Students at Orlando Stadium, with Daniel Akpeyi the preferred first choice and Bruce Bvuma deputizing him.

But Middendorp has since clarified why the Bafana Bafana international was missing in action.

“He (Khune) missed some training sessions for different reasons, in terms of having a challenge, I don’t want to put too much in,” Middendorp explained after the match.

“We are not discussing any injuries, during the entire time are not discussing any injury report or whatever. It is simply easy, there were a number of training days were he couldn’t make it and we decided, today it was Daniel Akpeyi and Bruce (Bvuma) and lets move forward now to what’s going on next week.” he said.

Akpeyi has been Amakhosi’s number goalkeeper this season playing in 20 League matches, Khune playing in 2, while Bvuma has also made 2 league appearances.
