Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp is calm and sees no need to pay attention to Bafana Bafana striker Bongokuhle Hlongwane, whose heroic goal helped the national team to beat Ghana in the FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The 21-year-old striker has been praised for his stellar performance against the Black Stars, something that would disturb any young player’s progress if not managed well.
Middendorp told the media at the unveiling of the club’s partnership with Give of the Givers Foundation that Hlongwane does not need to be managed.
“I don’t know if he (Hlongwane) deserves a special dealing… I think we are dealing with him like, since December 2020.
“The progress he has made in particular, he produced in particular in the last number of months is being part of the team, Maritzburg United. He is deserving of a call-up, playing under the first 11 in such an important game,” said Middendorp.
“I think the task is not about dealing with him, we worked on it and he worked on it, being part of the team that’s the result.”
“At the moment I don’t have any ambition to deal in particular with him, he is part of our team he is back in our training sessions.
“I think we hear that some players are not in the shape currently and I think he is in a very good shape,” explained Middendorp.
