Considering the situation and the turmoil which the club was in last season, Kaizer Chiefs are living a charmed life and have somewhat exceeded expectations and that’s according to Amakhosi head coach Ernst Middendorp.
The Amakhosi coach may have a point to a certain degree.
Chiefs finished in a disappointing 9th position in the log standings at the end of the 2018/19 season and lost in the Nedbank Cup Final against GladAfrica Championship side TS Galaxy in what was a disastrous season for Amakhosi.
Middendorp says nobody could have imagined in their wildest dreams the club’s change in fortunes halfway through the season.
“I think it’s a good number (35 points) – I’m always talking about it. It’s something you’re standing here now try for certain and you always should have made a prediction where will be on the 22 December at 6 o’clock in the evening, sorry which of you guys would have taken a quote in a way that we are leading 7 points in front of everybody I don’t think nobody,” said the German tactician.
The former Maritzburg United mentor then went on to warn his charges not to get complacent and continue working hard to maintain consistency as the season is still ongoing
“I’m always saying let’s be humble let’s be very clear it’s a hard way, we have to do our basics better… players sometimes get carried away a little bit but it’s not unusual, we have these games 45 minutes here, 50 minutes there sometimes 30 minutes of course we don’t like to see it” concluded Middendorp.
