Ahead of Kaizer Chiefs’ semi-final clash against Maritzburg United at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday, coach Ernst Midderndorp has quite the bad headache when it comes to the availability of players for the game.
“Three players are still not back. We could have been an option of playing Siyabonga Ngezana instead of Eric Mathoho (who’s suspended), but good we are just looking into it like I said in the beginning to see what are the options,” said the German prior to the clash.
Middendorp’s trouble is that three players are suspended for the match; Mathoho, Daniel Akpeyi and Willard Katsande.
“We have to replace Daniel Akpeyi, we have to replace Eric and Willard Katsande, as everybody knows.”
But of course Middendorp is pleased to see that some players have returned from injury are available for the match, including influential midfielder, Kearyn Baccus.
“From the injury side, good so far players we have here, there is a good direction in particular with Kearyn Baccus being back fully and available for selection,” Middendorp continued.
Meanwhile, ex Chiefs midfielder Keegan Buchanan, who now plays in the colours of Maritzburg United, says it’s about who wants it more on the day.
“When you play a cup game, especially a semi-final, I think form, like in a derby, go shows out the window,” said Buchanan.
“Everybody wants to win and I don’t think the pressure is on us because we’re not expected to win. The pressure is all on Chiefs and in the end it’s whoever wants it more on the day.”
Kick off is at 15:00.
