Mamelodi Sundowns winger Promise Mkhuma says he’s inspired by his fellow academy graduate Percy Tau who made his debut for English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup against Newport County on Sunday.
Tau came on as a substitute against the League Two side, where Brighton won 4-3 on penalties after playing to a 1-all draw in regulation time.
The SA U23 star has already won the league title and Nedbank Cup with Masandawana, having been promoted to the senior team a year ago.
“Firstly, I would like to congratulate him for his hard work and being patient throughout the journey. It was not an easy journey for him to be loaned out more than once. He never stopped putting effort wherever he was loaned out to,” Mkhuma told Sundowns’ official website.
The 20-year-old went on to speak his mind about how the Lion of Judah’s achievements have inspired him.
“I am really happy to see him back at Brighton because it’s everyone’s dream to be where he is now (in the English Premier League) but it all comes with hard work and staying positive. It is inspiring mostly to us the younger ones that no matter what the circumstances, just stay positive and put in the hard work,” adds the Brazilians starlet.
The Tshwane-born youngster reckons that Tau’s story is a lesson that nothing in life comes easy.
“I would like to wish him well and I believe he is gonna do well. Hard work pays off,” concluded Mkhuma.
