Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi insists Phakamani Mahlambi knows what is required of him to revive his football career.
Mahlambi is on loan at AmaZulu after struggling to get game time at Masandawana, but has also struggled to cement a place under coach Benni McCarthy at the KZN side.
The U23 international has managed just 60 minutes since his much publicised move in December 2020.
Mngqithi who was initially reluctant to comment on the player’s progress at Usuthu says footballers also need to take responsibility for their careers.
“On Phakamani (Mahlambi) I think I would prefer not to comment, I prefer not to comment because it is his career,” said Mngqithi after being asked if he was concerned about Mahlambi’s lack of game time.
“He knows what he has to do for his career, we tried our best as well to help him. He is a very talented player, he knows what he can offer, but I think at times players must also take full responsibility for their careers,” he said.
