Swallows aim to prove wrong the ‘Doubting Thomases’

Swallows FC chairperson David Mogashoa says he would love to see the faces of the ‘doubting Thomases’ once his team gains promotion from the GladAfrica Championship to the Absa Premiership this season.

When new coach Brandon Truter arrived at the club, the Dube Birds changed their mandate from qualifying for the playoffs to securing a place in the top 8.

But now with 11 matches remaining in the 2019/2020 GladAfrica Championship season and Swallows in position 4, with only 7 points separating them from log leaders Ajax Cape Town, Mogashoa has changed his tune again and says they are now gunning for promotion.

“No, we are going for it (the second-tier league title), the mandate has not changed but I said to the coach we need to be open because if it happens it would be nice,” – Mogashoa.

“But you know we want automatic promotion, playoffs are going to be very tricky. And they are going to take up a lot of our time because remember they happen while other teams are relaxing and planning for the next season, and now you are busy with play-offs you don’t know whether you are going to be in or out you know. So, I said to the coach we want automatic, not playoffs no.

“No there are still 11 games – it’s very possible. I mean, we are only behind I think it’s about six points. So, it’s very possible. So, Ajax can’t win all their games I mean now there can only be one Liverpool you know, so ja we will catch them somewhere, somehow.”

Mogashoa says he will bring a lot of joy to whole Swallows family, “especially because there were a lot of doubting Thomases that said, ‘Aah these guys are not going anywhere’. You know they were even teasing us ‘you guys are just coming in you wasted your money, you are coming in and you are going back to ABC Motsepe’, that helped you know,” added the Swallows chairperson.
