Galatasaray new recruits Henry Onyekuru and Mostafa Mohamed have made an immediate at the club.
Mohamed netted on his debut for the Turkish giants as they defeated rivals Instanbul Basaksehir 3-0 at the Turk Telekom Stadium.
The forward joined the Turkish side on loan from Egyptian giants Zamalek after weeks of negotiations between the two sides.
He came on as a second half substitute for Nigerian midfielder Oghenekharo Etebo who had to be sacrificed with coach Fatih Terim going for an all out attack approach in the second half.
Onyekuru opened the scoring at the end of the first half before Ryan Donk doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 64th minute. Onyekuru was fouled inside the box and Mostafa sealed all three points in additional time with a well taken spot-kick.
Terim’s side is now undefeated in their last four Super Lig games and the win against Basaksehir boosted their confidence as they fight to win the Super Lig title.
On the other hand, Onyekuru has started life well since returning on loan from AS Monaco. The forward has scored three goals in his first two games for the Cimbom.
This is the 24-year-old’s third stint at the club and the president of the club came out expressing his joy at having him back home. He might be the final piece of the puzzle as the club pushes to bring back glory days.
Moroccan midfielder Younes Belhanda came on in the second half while Demba Ba (who was on the losing side) came on for the last 21 minutes of the game for the visitors. Four African players are currently in the books and playing a big role in their resurgence of the club.
Galatasaray climbed up the table to second spot on the table with 45 points from 22 games played – three points behind log leaders Fenerbahce.
