Mokotjo’s Brentford fall short of a promotion

Bafana Bafana international Kamohelo Mokotjo and his club Brentford were denied a place in the English Premiership next season, following a 2-1 defeat by Fulham in the Championship playoff final at Wembley on Tuesday.

Brentford, who were trying to end a 73-year wait to be in the top flight will have to deal with yet another play-off failure after 9 attempts.

Fulham on the other hand secure an immediate return to the Premier League thanks to two extra-time goals from Joe Bryan, while The Bees pulled one back through Henrik Dalsgaard during regulation time.

The result is a bitter blow for Brentford, who were on the brink of automatic promotion last month before successive defeats against lowly Stoke and Barnsley forced them to settle for a third-place finish behind Leeds United and West Brom.

Mokotjo was not part of the match day squad.

The 29-year-old has struggled to make the squad of late, since his return from a long layoff due to an injury.
