Orlando Pirates legend Teboho Moloi has called on the Buccaneers supporters to be patient with newly appointed coach Josef Zinnbauer and give him a chance.
Zinnbauer was announced last week to take over from Rulani Mokwena who has been serving as head coach on an interim basis.
But the 49-year-old’s appointment was met with mixed reactions from the Pirates supporters with some questioning Dr. Irvin Khoza’s decision to demote Mokwena back to the assistant coach position.
Speaking exclusively to #FARPost on Monday, Moloi said it will not be a first time Pirates appoint a lesser-known coach.
You know I hear a lot of people complaining about the new guy (Josef Zinnbauer) you know and we all know the Chairman would never bring or appoint somebody whom he thinks will never bring changes,” said Moloi.
“In 1973 when Pirates had a clean sweep we had a coach called Tony Sanderson and a lot of people didn’t know anything about him but he ended up winning everything that was on offer.
In 1992 the chairman brought in Jeff Hudson and we know what he did for us and that was the turning point of Orlando Pirates starting to beat Kaizer Chiefs.
“We should just support the guy and give him a chance. I mean, even Kaizer Chiefs brought in Jeff Butler who knew anything about Jeff Butler? But he did wonders for Chiefs.”
The 51-year-old refused to comment on coach Mokwena being demoted back to the assistant coach position saying it is difficult to give a comment because he is not part of the team.
