After the return of Lebogang Phiri last weekend, another South African is nearing a return from injury in France.
On Tuesday, Bafana striker Lebo Mothiba returned to full training with Racing Club Strasbourg Alsace after being out of action for seven months.
In August 2020, the 25-year-old had to undergo surgery to his knee and he has been working hard on the sidelines to get back to full fitness. The sad part for the former LOSC Lille star is that he was having a great pre-season with the club when the doctors decided that his recurring knee problem needed to be dealt with permanently.
Mothiba netted three goals for Strasbourg leading up to the start of the 2020/21 campaign.
In a conversation with FARPost last year, the forward said he will be back stronger and better after this setback.
“Yeah my recovery is going very well, now I’m able to do a lot of things I couldn’t do before like squats and bicycle, things like that. Of course, this season I had a lot of goals that I wanted to achieve, but now I believe after this injury I will come back even stronger and push for me to achieve the goals that I’ve now set for 2021 so we’ll how it goes when I return,” said Mothiba.
He also missed majority of the 2021 Afcon qualifiers where South Africa failed to qualify for the continental showpiece in Cameroon next year. The attacker only featured in the home game against Sudan where Bafana Bafana won 1-0 thanks to a Lebogang Phiri strike.
Strasbourg will be delighted to have one of their best players back to bolster their attack going into the final phase of the Ligue 1 season. The French side currently sit in 13th spot on the table with 36 points from 31 games.
Ludovic Ajorque has been leading the front line for the Racers this season. He has netted 12 goals and assisted another four strikes in 29 games so far.
Mothiba will be eager to get back into the match day squad when the Racers host Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday. The Parisians are still licking their wounds after being stunned by Lille last weekend in the league.
