The Mozambique U20 ended their second phase of preparation this week for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) U20 tournament to be held in Mauritania from February 14.
During the nine-day stay in the province of Tete, Vila do Songo, the Mambinhas, led by coach Dário Monteiro held six training sessions and two control games with local teams.
In the first game, the Mambinhas faced União Desportiva de Songo, suffering a 2-1 defeat, while in the second encounter on Wednesday afternoon, they met Provincial Football Champion of Tete – Bagamoyo de Moatize, playing out to a goalless draw.
The Mambinhas coach revealed that from Nampula the team will start the pre-competitive phase that will culminate in the formation of an initial proposal from the final team that will head to the Afcon.
According to Monteiro, the objectives set for the work in Songo were achieved, as it was possible to give rhythm and competitiveness to the players.
“For the coach, playing with União Desportiva de Songo, one of the best teams in Mozambique, and with the Provincial Champion of Tete was good, because it is this type of game that the team needs,” he said.
The strategy was aligning two different teams aimed at allowing the growth of all players. Monteiro is happy with the way the players give themselves up to guarantee a place in the final squad that will play in the Afcon tournament in February.
