The month of December marks 13 years since Baroka was formed by current Chairman Khurishi Mphahlele.

Bakgaga remains the only club in the DStv Premiership to have gone through all the amateur levels of football in the country up until they gained promotion to the top division.

The levels include the Local Football Association (LFA) League, SAB regional league, ABC Motsepe League and the first division (GladAfrica Championship).

Their most notable success is the 2018 Telkom Knockout triumph, in which they defeated Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates.

Speaking to FARPost, Chairman Mphahlele says the past 13 years have been a long journey full of success, lessons, but he has no regrets.

“It has been a long journey which we have enjoyed and I am not regretting anything,” says Mphahlele.

“I am proud to stand in front of you here to tell you that we still have the energy to go on, to make our province proud. We will make a lot of mistakes, which we did, but we rectify those mistakes and we will make a lot of good things. We are a team with a rich history.

“SAFA structures are still proud of us, our record is still intact at SAFA. We have never experienced relegation, we will fight until the team is stable and strong. We have achieved plus or minus seven promotions, those are achievements to me,” he said.

“Not just promotion, we were Champions of SAFA Provincial league and we were also Champions of the national play-offs, we were Champions of the National first division and we are also Champions of Telkom Knockout. So we have a lot of things we can look back and say we have done something which we need to cherish and we love what we are doing,” he added.

Mphahlele has also reiterated his full support to current head coach Matsimela Thoka.

“I am not supporting the coach, we have groomed this man to do the work, and it’s not a matter of supporting. We will be with him, even if he fails, we will still support him. We will never chase him away, he is our baby,” concluded Mphahlele.
