Absa Premiership defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns are in the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League and they are also still in the fight to defend the league title.

The team has already won the Telkom Knockout tournament and they will start the Nedbank Cup campaign against Tshwane rivals.

Despite their tight schedule their former midfield maestro Ernest “Wire” Mtawali believes the 2016 CCL winners can go all the way and fetch the Africa’s most priced trophy.

He told FARPost that with the team that the Brazilians have they are capable of winning the Champions League as well as defend the league title.

“They have been playing in Africa almost every year for the past six or so years now and they have the experience of how to win in Africa,” Mtawali said.

“They have a well-balanced squad which can play just as well in Africa as they do at home. If you look at their group in the Champions League it was not easy but they qualified for the quarterfinals without losing a game which shows just how good they are. They are playing in all the tournaments at home and in Africa which gives almost every player the chance to play.

“I believe they will go all the way and win the Champions League,” added Mtawali.
