From among the bottom teams, GladAfrica Championship side Real Kings have moved up and are now mixing it with the top teams in the second tier of SA football.
Initially, Kings were looking dead (and probably buried) even though it’s admittedly still early days in the season.
FARPost.co.za chatted to Real Kings coach Joel Masutha a couple of weeks ago and at the time, he promised a quick turnaround after settling in at the club.
True to his word, the man nicknamed “Muporofita” (The Prophet) from his days at Black Leopards is taking Kings to the top slowly but surely.
“It’s difficult, but we are trying,” said Masutha, giving us an update this week.
Kings are fresh from an impressive 3-0 win over Free State Stars at the weekend and have now moved up to fifth spot, just six points adrift of the leaders, Uthongathi.
“The good thing is the fight – the way the players are responding,” he said.
“Now we are scoring goals and the confidence is there. Yeah, no, it’s showing that we would end up somewhere.”
To Kings’ advantage, Masutha has a lot of experience coaching in this division, including the time he guided Black Leopards to PSL promotion some years ago.
“I know what we need (to win promotion). I know how to win… so far, the players believe we would make it,” Masutha added.
