Embattled Ajax Cape Town make a trip to off-form Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) on Tuesday, in a Premier Soccer League (PSL) promotion/relegation play-offs fixture that could prove decisive for the Cape side.
Having dropped to second in the standings after suffering a defeat in their last encounter against Black Leopards, Ajax have to win to stay in touch in the race to gain promotion to the Premiership.
A victory this afternoon at the Bidvest Stadium (15:00) would bring Ajax level on points with the mini log leaders Leopards with one match remaining.
It’s a must-win scenario for Calvin Marlin’s men, who were relegated to the second-tier league back in 2018.
“Disappointed with the result at the end of the day against Leopards. I think we deserved at least one goal in that game. A draw would’ve changed everything in the mini-league,” said Ajax coach Marlin about last week’s loss.
“With them [Leopards] beating TTM on the weekend it has firmly put them in the driving seat, and it is all up to us to get two positive results in the two games.”
‘The Urban Warriors beat ‘Vhadau Vha Damani’ 3-2 in the reverse fixture at Rand Stadium thanks to goals from Eleazar Rodgers, Sonwabile Mfecane and Keagan Johannes and Marlin will need his charges to repeat their heroics but without conceding.
“Hopefully we can score a few goals, take a few of our chances and if we do well against TTM hopefully we can then shift focus to getting a comfortable win over Leopards to put the pressure back on them for the last game,” added Marlin.
“For the final game, I don’t know where TTM will be by then. I am sure they are fighting more against us than they will against Leopards, especially after what they posted on Twitter, already congratulating Leopards on retaining their place in the Premiership.
“Hopefully the boys will be fired up and get a positive result in the next two games,” concluded the Ajax mentor.
