Golden Arrows striker Knox Mutizwa believes the fact that Orlando Pirates lost the Soweto derby last weekend will make their League match on Saturday more difficult.
‘Abafana Bes’thende’ host the wounded ‘Buccaneers’ at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium (18:00), where a win for the visitors will see them back climb to second place on the log standings.
“The last time we beat Pirates maybe was two, three years back huh?,” says the Zimbabwean international.
“And I scored the winning goal, right? Ja I think this time we have the opportunity to beat them because we are playing at home. But you know Pirates is a big team and they are chasing the League.
“It’s going to be tough, but we must apply our game plan, apply what the coach taught us this week. We must try by all means to get something from Pirates.”
Mutizwa says even though they find it difficult to win against the Soweto giants, it’s not true that they are their whipping boys.
“I know people talk but even us players we want to beat Pirates because when you score against such a big team like Pirates everyone will be motivated in our team.
“If we lose you know Pirates is a big team, we don’t blame ourselves too much because we know that Pirates is a big team but if we win it’s a bonus for us and everyone will be happy.
“But that’s not true that Golden Arrows it’s an obvious win for Pirates. Ja Yoh! because last week they lost a big game Soweto derby and everyone was saying ‘Pirates are going to win this derby’ but they lost so I think this week they want to come and put all their effort and get three points because last week they lost points you see.
“So, I think we are going to play a more hungry Pirates and angry (laughs). Obvious they will want to win no matter what, it’s going to be a tough game.”
Mutizwa says he is aware how much fans of Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns would love to see Arrows beat the Buccaneers.
“Ja I know those teams they will want us to beat Pirates, but I think us as Arrows…I would like to promise Arrows fans that we will do our best, if we get three points, we will be happy.
“If we lose or draw again it’s going to be a team effort there. So, but I just want Golden Arrows fans to come and support us, we will try our best in the field.”
