MUTUAL RESPECT: Wydad players wish Thapelo Morena a speedy recovery

Arguably Mamelodi Sundowns’s biggest rivals on the continent, Wydad Casablanca players have sent their messages of support to injured star, Thapelo Morena.

Morena has undergone surgery following his horrific injury against SuperSport United in the last 32 of the Nedbank Cup at Loftus Stadium on Saturday.

Downs won 1-0, but their victory was marred by Morena’s injury.

Morena sustained a fracture as well as ligament damage on his right ankle.

While local footballers and fans have shown their support to Morena, it was also quite pleasing to see Wydad first sent out a tweet from their official account to also wish him a speedy recovery and took it a step further by getting the message through on video.

The well wishes didn’t surprise Downs mentor Pitso Mosimane, at all…

The Tshwane club previously showed the North African side some respect too.

In December last year, “Jingles” wished Wydad centre-back Achraf Dari a speedy recovery after the latter suffered a cruciate ligament rupture that will keep him on the sidelines until June this year.

Downs and Wydad have over the years met many times in the CAF Champions League, with the most recent match just earlier this month with Mosimane’s men winning 1-0 at Lucas Moripe Stadium to win their Group.

Sundowns, as group winners, have been drawn to face Egyptian side Al Ahly in the quarterfinals starting later this month.

Wydad, meanwhile, will meet Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia.
