Former TS Galaxy head coach Dan Malesela has revealed how football legends such as Bernard ‘Shoes’ Lushozi, Roger Feutmba and Eric Ramasike helped him and the club to create history.
Galaxy humbled South African football giants Kaizer Chiefs in the final of the Nedbank Cup at Moses Mabhida Stadium, on this date last year.
Amakhosi were the overwhelming favourites to win their first silverware in four years but a 1-0 victory by the newly formed side stunned the whole country.
“The belief was always there and a lot of faith because we had done a lot in terms of preparations because the biggest thing was to get the minds right,” Malesela told FARPost.
“That’s why I called a lot of people who had experience in terms of winning in yesteryears so I called the likes of Bernard Lushozi, Roger Feutmba and Eric Ramasike just to come and have a day with them and to talk to them about self-belief,” he said.
Malesela insists the victory is by far the biggest achievement for him as a professional coach.
“As a coach it is the biggest achievement. I have won youth tournaments with young players, your Bayhill and MTN tournaments but this as a professional coach, it’s the biggest,” added Malesela.
The 54-year-old who has since parted ways with ‘The Rockets’ has been unemployed while searching for a new team.
