Mzansi stars abroad weekend wrap


Darren Smith continued banging goals in Finland with a hattrick while Banyana Banyana stars Thembi Kgatlana and Refiloe Jane opened their account for their respective clubs as we wrap up this weekend’s action of our players abroad.


The former SL Benfica attacker made yet another appearance for Spanish Primera Division side Eibar as they drew 2-2 against Levante on Saturday. Kgatlana came off the bench and was the saviour for Eibar scoring the equaliser in added time to salvage a point for the Spanish side.

It was Kgatlana’s first league goal in her second appearance for  Eibar.


The Rio Ave loanee started and lasted 83 minutes while grabbing an assist for the second goal for Spanish Segunda Liga side CD Mirandes as they got a comfortable 2-0 victory against Sabadell in the league on Saturday.

Schutte has started all the games since his arrival on loan from Rio Ave.


Motlhalo was in the starting XI for Djurgarden DFF playing the whole game as they lost 2-0 away at Orebro on Sunday afternoon.

The loss leaves Djurgarden 8th on the log with 20 points earned from their 18 games played so far in Sweden’s top flight.


Both South Africans were in action for Finnish second-tier side Ekenas, but it was Darren Smith who continued his great form in front of goal as he scored a beautiful hattrick for the side in their 3-0 win over MP on Saturday.

Ayabulela Konqobe also started and completed the entire 90 minutes for Ekenas.


Banyana Banyana midfield maestro Refoloe ‘Fifi’ jane is continuing with the fine form she had last season for AC Milan. This time the midfielder started and lasted 90 minutes for the Italian Serie A Femminino giants, scoring their first goal as they thumped Empoli Women 3-0 in a league encounter on Saturday.


Former PEC ZWOLLE striker Lars Veldwijk played the entire 90 minutes for Korean K-League 2 side FC Suwon. Veldwijk grabbed the assist for the only goal of the game as Suwon won 1-0 against Daejeon.

The win takes Suwon back to the top of the log standings with 48 points earned from the 23 games played so far.


It was a heartbreaking weekend for midfielder Lebo Moloto as his USL Championship side FC Tulsa got knocked out in the USL Playoff quarterfinal losing 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw against El Paso Locomotive in America.


The Bafana Bafana midfielder made his second appearance for FC Cincinnati in the MLS, but could not help them avoid a 1-0 defeat against Toronto.


The Banyana star who turns 27 today played the whole game for SC Braga as they thrashed Boavista 7-0 in the league on Saturday.


The 16-year-old played the whole 90 minutes and opened his scoring account for Atalanta U-17 as they beat rivals Inter Milan 3-2 in the league on Sunday.


The KZN Academy graduate played the whole game and laid an assist as Cova Di Piedade beat GRAP 4-1 in the Portuguese Taca de Portugal on Sunday afternoon.
