The Premier Soccer League and MultiChoice have announced that the MultiChoice Diski Challenge will now be called the DStv Diski Challenge.
The announcement was made by the PSL Chairman Dr Irvin Khoza and MultiChoice CEO Nyiko Shiburi on Monday.
The new season will start on Saturday, 5 December, and conclude in the first weekend of July 2021.
“When we launched the first season of the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, we did so to address football development challenges in our country,” said Dr Khoza at the announcement ceremony.
“Possession, precision and quality were some of the biggest challenges facing our budding stars. We have already seen some improvements, and have made progress towards winning the battle. Most of the players that started at the inception of the Under 23 are now regulars in the DStv Premiership and GladAfrica Championship,” he said.
MultiChoice CEO, Shiburi added that it was time to evolve into the next phase of unearthing the next generation of stars.
“The Tournament, which launched six years ago, has made a significant impact on football and sports broadcasting in South Africa,” said Shiburi.
“It has grown over the years and we believe it is time to evolve it into the next phase of unearthing the next generation of stars, on and off the field,” he said.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the matches will be played behind closed doors with no fans.
