GladAfrica Championship side Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila have confirmed the appointment of Dutchman Erol Akbay as head coach for the rest of the season.

The 52-year-old has been given an automatic promotion mandate by the hard to please president of the club, Masala Mulaudzi.

The club’s CEO Sello Chokoe confirmed that the new coach who will be assisted by Lucky Nelukau started work today.

“After having done a lot of interviews we have finally appointed Mr. Erol Akbay as our head coach for the reminder of the season and his mandate is to make sure that the team gets automatic promotion because we are in our third year,” Chokoe said.

“It’s a pity that we had to change a coach early this season, but it was necessary as I said that there were disciplinary processes that we had to deal with. But now everything is sorted, he started his work formally this afternoon.”

The disciplinary issue Chokoe is talking about involved their former coach Moma Medic, who was sacked recently.

Akbay started coaching in 1997 where he started as a coach for youth development at a small club called Heracle Amelo’s in the second division of the Dutch league where he spent 6 years at the club.

He was then appointed as head coach of second division side HVV Hengelo for the 2002-2003 season and led them to a fifth position finish.

He has since coached the likes of Highlanders FC (Zimbabwe) and Ngezi Platinum also in Zimbabwe.
