Newly hired TP Mazembe head coach and former Ligue 1 star Franck Dumas is facing a 36-month prison sentence for tax fraud in France.
Mazembe and Dumas have reached an agreement for a two-year contract.
The Former Monaco, Marseille, and Newcastle player was neither present in court nor represented by a lawyer when he was sentenced.
The main charge against the french head coach is hiding 450, 000 euros earnings from his 2012 tax returns. In total, the tax authorities say Dumas owes 557,496 euros from a three-year period.
Dumas wrote to the court promising to attend the trial and to settle the debt but this wasn’t the case after all.
As a player, Dumas played more than 500 top-flight games with Caen, Monaco, and Marseille and won the French league title with Monaco. He also played six matches in a brief spell at Newcastle United in 2000.
